Subject: Dakota no start? IP: Logged
Message: Off and on I've had a no start problem with my 98 Dakota V6.
Today if I turn the key I get a .40 voltage drop no engine crank just a hum even in neutral.
When I did get it to crank it would turn over 1/4 to 1/2 turn then stop.
The battery is new with 12.40 volts about 10 cranking. Could this be a corroded terminal at the starter? I believe there is some corrosion.

Message: I have to take it apart but I believe it's the starter contacts(solenoid).
It would work for a month with no problem then wouldn't crank over or sometimes would start to crank then stop. Then next day everything would be fine.
