why does my engine idle so nice while in park but not so smoothly while in drive? The tach stays constant, but I can feel the uneven idle. Sometime at a stop light, the rpm will drop suddenly and then return to normal. What's up with this? Thanks.

My 5.2 does that, too. I have no idea why though. A couple of weeks ago my rear speed sensor went out and it died completely when I stopped. That wasn't very enjoyable.

Mine does the samething. Brought it back to the dealer and they said all is fine. I told them what it is doing and they just stare at you with this blank look. My guess is the computer is making adjustments and gets confused! Thank God its not running Windows...... :)

Idles are much lower now then ever in history. The engines run leaner then ever as well. Especialy at idle. My 4.7 idles at 500 rpm and it is a little rough for a v8 but it is not that bad. Look at how rough most 4 cylinders in the 1980's idled. I bet that the rough idle would go away if it idled around 700 rpm and they richened it up a bit.

Guys mine idels at like 600 or 650 and it runs rich too, must be the difference in an automatic and a standard? Or maybe the flashes are different in the computer? My dealer told me this richness that mine runs is normal to cause I mean this thing you can actually smell gasoline sometimes but its got awesome throttle response!

sometimes mine will idle at about 600 and then at the next stoplight it will idle at 500. Oh well, as long as others are experiencing the same thing I won't worry about it anymore. Thanks.

With the push on to get better gas mileage and less emmissions, the automakers are doing things like this to compensate. I have had a lot of daks and the idle has been getting a bit lower each year.
