Subject: Fans/Heating system IP: Logged
Message: My 2002 Dakota's fans stopped working about a
month back. No matter what setting I have them on,
they do not work, but heat slowly leaks out of the
vents that I have the knob set to. At one point,
while my wife was sitting in the passenger seat,
she kicked something underneath the passenger
sided dash to make the fans work, and they would
work for a little bit then stop, we would repeat
the kicking process. But that process finally
stopped after awhile. Is this a problem other
people have had, or know how to fix? Anything I
can check or replace?

Message: I second CM - check the blower motor resistor.
Also, it's time to grab the multi meter - it could
be a bad connector to the fan, could be a bad fan,
could be a bad connector to the blower motor
resistor. HOWEVER - from past history, resistor
first (don't know the price for yours, but they
tend to be $5 to $20 at the parts stores), then
worry about the rest.
If you're not sure where it is or how to get to
it, a year's subscription to AllDataDIY (
www.alldatadiy.com ) is highly recommended. Or
even better, buy the factory manual used off eBay
or new from Helm Inc ( www.helminc.com ).

Message: It was the fan resistor. I researched about the resistor and
common heater problems. I pulled out the resistor, and sure
enough, it was all burnt up. Replaced it and it was good to
go.
