Here is a pic of it:

You can read the article I wrote on the install here... http://www.chimptopia.com/pimptopia/grille.html

Let me know what you think... Hopefully it can help someone out there!

Wow! Really nice work! I've been lookin' for grille inserts for my GenI, but haven't found any (nor would I pay $70 for them!). I might just have to invest $15 to try your recipie. Mine's all white with black trim, so I'd probably paint the stuff before using it for my grille. What was the stuff you got from Lowes' called? Do you think it can be painted? Thanks for the awesome post!

It was "Premium/Deluxe" Gutter guard. I don't remember the manufacturer's name, but if you go in the "gutter guard" section, I'm sure you can't miss it.

Good Luck!

Is the material a thick material or light weight? How about the air flow into the engine compartment, I think it looks really good, and want to try it on mine.

Jake,

The material is "just right"... not "too thick" (so it can be bent and formed around the grill openings) and not "too thin" (which prevents it from flexing while driving).

Airflow is totally unaffected by this grill. The holes are sufficiently large enough not to disrupt airflow.

The only stuff I found at the Lowe's near my house is plastic stuff. Probably a stupid question, but that stuff is metal, right?

You can see my inserts at, www.geocities.com/intense79/

Doin it this weekend! Picked up the Gutter Guard at Home Depot, cost us $8 with Tax Canadian, it was called "Premium Gutter Guard" and yes it's metal, DO NOT use the plastic stuff the wind would tear it apart.

Will post pics after it's all done.

Yes... the grill mesh on my Dak is metal.

Hey, guys... thats one of the first things I installed in my dakota..

Ive gotten so many comments how that looks pretty kewl...

Did you just cut out the plastic slates in there and then tie the wire to yours..

I put my wire behind the plastic slates and know i think i will remove them..

Later dudes

Yeah... I cut them to begin with. No way I am going back! LOL

I wire tied the mesh to each other (2 separate panels for each side) and then I just used the factory screws on the top to hold it in and shot new screws into the bottom.

I have been getting alot of e-mail questions on this, so I made some updates. Hopefully that will answer the questions many have.
