could it be tied to a problem with your alarm system? That would be my best guess

Does it have remote door locks that make the horn beep? I cant think of anything that would make the horn beep otherwise if its a closed system. Since youre not hitting the horn button, there has to be something else that can control the horn and make it beep. That is where I would look first.

it does have remote locks, but it has never activated the horn when locking/unlocking the doors. it does have a 'panic" button on the key fob which of course activates the horn.

yeah that's what I would blame. Sometimes when the battery is dead, it will kind of "reboot" the alarm/doorlock/panic system. Do you notice that your interior lights go out when you start it (assuming you have them on first) That would signal that its using up all your juice to start the truck causing your panic button system to reboot. Another way to test it is if you disconnect the battery and then reconnect it, does it cause the horn to beep?
