Subject: AC question IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000, 4.7 liter Dakota.
I noticed with the AC on max, the compressor is cycling. I thought with the AC on max, the compressor would run continuously?
Just trying to determine if there is a problem or not.
Thanks!

Message: It should stay running. There are two switches, a low pressure and a high pressure cut off. The best thing to do is put gauges on it and check to see if it is within spec. The cheap out is to buy one of those "top off" cans and add that.
Can you see any seepage anywhere in the system?

Message: Took it to a shop last month and had it evacuated and charged, they also put dye in it and said the evaporator is leaking. The shop owner suggested "red angel" and said it may or may not work depending on the size of the leak.
So far it is still blowing cold air, about 50 deg yesterday when the outside air temp here was 78 deg.
With the compressor cycling, I am thinking the freon is slowly leaking out, but I will continue to monitor a prepare for a big job!
