Subject: 2000 4.7 liter AC leak IP: Logged
Message: Well after putting it off, had my AC system checked due to blowing warm air.
Did not want to hear where the leak was, yes the dreaded evaporator. The mechanic even showed me the green dye with the black light.
I realize this is going to be an expensive job, and the mechanic suggested changing both the heater core and evaporator while the dash is apart.
My question is (and myself being pretty mechanically inclined) is this one of those jobs you try yourself and then you wish you took it to a shop, or really not to bad to do on your own.
Just wanted some different opinions!
Thanks :)

Message: Jerry, the main thing that would stop me from doing it myself would be how long it would take me to get the job done. For me, my truck is my primary transportation and could not do without it for more than one weekend.
If the use of the truck isn't an issue, I'd go for it. As it stands for me, I have to change out my compressor on my '00. I can evacuate the system, change out the comp, drier, the expansion valve, vacuum and recharge the system in a day.
Taking the dash apart and R & R the evap and heater core will take time. If you got the time and a service manual, go for it. It's what DIYer's do.
