Subject: leaning to the driver side IP: Logged
Message: hey all,
I have noticed that my truck is at a slight angle. It is more noticable with a full tank, but the driver side is lower than the passenger side. I am wondering if new shocks would fix this problem? Or is this a sign my springs are shot? I boughtthe truck used so I don't know how much towin aond/or hauling it has done. It is a 1994, v-8, 5 spd w/114,000. Any help would be great. Thanks

Message: Hey guy. A leaning of the chassis is usually a shock. To check a bad shock, bounce the truck three times up and down, if it bounces more than twice after you stop, bad shock. A spring that is bad will be visable to you.

Message: Shocks- absorb the bump
Springs- determine ride height
I would guess bad spring

I had a 1987 Dodge Ram with the same problem. Replaced both
front springs and still had the same problem.
After taking the truck to a body and frame shop they discovered
a twisted frame up near the front of the truck.
I hope yours is just a weak spring and not a frame issue.

Message: Well I hit this bump pretty hard and at the time it caused my steering collumn to break and the dealership said the lean was the spring was weak now but I thought it may be the frame. I know for sure though that there is a bigger gap in the passenger wheel well than the driver and when I jack the low side up from the from and raise the spring it does level out.

you are ABSOLUTELY WRONG in saying that shocks control ride hieght. springs do, not shocks, shocks absorb the bump as Clevite said. My company has built quite a few machines that assemble the small metal eyelet, in the rubber, inside the large eyelet, on both ends of shocks, and from what I have seen of the Gas charged shocks that a southeast michigan company that actually designes and builds them, (we need to have a small amount of the incomplete shocks sent to us for tryout before shipping the machine) using my assembly machines, is that there is not enough pressure in them to support 100 lbs. let alone the 1000 or so lbs or more that each corner of a truck can weigh.
