Subject: No clutch...
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 01 Dakota Sport 5 spd 4X4 that
just went thru a major overhaul,
including a clutch and flywheel. Even
so, after it sat idling for a while the
clutch wouldn't function right, we
either had to power shift it or turn the
truck off to get it into first or reverse.
Figuring there was only one component
left to replace, yesterday we replaced
the clutch master cylinder. Now I have
no functionality in my clutch and no
tension in the pedal, it just flops. Any
suggestions or ideas as to what's wrong
now would be greatly appreciated as
we are just baffled...

Is the clutch master cylinder like a brake master cylinder...in that you need to pre-bleed it prior to installing...otherwise you have air in the system, not allowing it to work properly?

I'm assuming someone already crawled under your rig (while it was shut off) to see that all parts are connected and moving when the pedal was being actuated? Was the throw-out bearing or something left out? It has been many moons since I last worked on a clutch. Mybe someone else has better ideas?

The clutch master and slave cylinder should be a sealed system. There is no bleed port.
