Subject: 98 Dakota - Time to retire?
IP: Logged

Message:
To start off - I love my truck!!
I have 182,000 Miles and its been in 1 minor
accident that has resulted in me replacing the
majority of the steering components.

The last part to replace for the steering to be
solid again is the linkage between the steering
column and the gear box. There is a U-joint and
knuckle and it is $500 from the dealership. (Used
be ok?)

Now the truck needs more than this - heater core
is plugged, needs tires, and a few other things
that I really should have fixed.

So - should I retire my friend of 12 years?
I have thought about garaging it and rebuilding
from ground up - I have saved about $4,000 for
another truck but if I could reassemble this for
something comparable I would like to. My level of
repair savvy is not high but I have lots of gear
head assistance if I get stuck.

Actually not the rag joint as the play is coming
from the U joint just past the rag joint. I will
probably replace the rag as well.

For the heater core, you can try backflushing it. That usually clears them up.
