Subject: Lower Control Arms IP: Logged
Message: Hello,
I had my 2002 Dakota lowered 2/3 when new in 2001. The only reason I had it lowered is b/c I am in a wheelchair.
Now the lowered control arms are trash. I don't remember what kind they are.
My question is who makes the best lowered front control arms now..??
The truck has only 26,000 miles.
Thank you

Message: Are the control 'arms' trashed or the bushings that connect them to the frame worn out?...or maybe your ball joints are worn? These items are designed to wear and typically show excellerated wear with wider tires (the price we sometimes pay for modifying our rigs). A quick 'Google' of 2002 Dodge dakota lowering kits shows:

One kit uses different 'upper' control arms and another replaces the springs with shorter ones, both lower the front. Since you mentioned the control arms, I'm guessing the 1st one is the type kit you had installed. Since it is a dakota, I'm guessing there are probably no more than two or three companies that offered a lowering kit. A visual inspection may determine what brand, while a good mechanic can tell you what needs replaced. Good luck.
