 Subject: What size tires?

Good day all,
I have a 2000, 4.7 liter, 4x4, V8, SLT which currently has tires that are 31x10.5-15.
However the sticker on the door jamb lists size 235/75-15.
Not sure what the difference is, or maybe just a matter of preference?
Also some tire websites list both sizes as possibilities.
Can anyone provide input as to why there are 2 sizes listed, and since I will be needing new tires soon, which size is best.

Your tires are to big for your truck. Someone needed to feel good about themself so they put oversized tires on the truck.
235/75/15 is the correct size.

My '00 QC came with 215/75/15. Now I run 235/75/15 which is the optional size for my truck.

same dilemma...
P235's on 15x7 rims listed on the door jamb, but 31x10.5 on 15x8(ish) rims on the truck.
Tirerack lists both tire sizes, but only one of the 3 tire stores I got quotes from, said anything about the bigger tires. He said they don't want the P235's on a 8" wide rim.
Any comments?

I thought the 31s were an optional tire on the 4x4s. 31s...even with the 4.7 V-8 should not be a problem...unless you have 'taller' (less reduction) gearing. When I ran 31's on my `95 5.2 V-8 I didn't notice any mpg change, but I have 3.55 gearing. If your numbers are lower (3.08 maybe?), then you may notice a bit of a MPG drop. Even with the 33s I am running now I am still getting 14+ running around the rural roads...15 to 16+ on Interstate trips. I would be looking at my mileage. How many miles ago was the air filter, spark plugs, or spark plug wires changed? When was the last time a good quality fuel injector cleaner (think sea foam) was ran through a tank of gas?
My $.02, Stay with the larger tires if you take it off road. Go to the smaller tires (and less agressive tread) if you are just on the road and trying to get as much mileage out of it as possible.
