Message: I have a 2001 dodge dakota and only just recently
did i start having problems with it. I went to
leave work and it would not start for several
tries. it sounded like it wanted to turn over but
wouldn't. Eventually i got it started and it
sounded like garbage, it was making a "growling"
sound. I got home and parked it for the night. The
next day i got in it for work and it started
right up with no problem what so ever and ran
beautifully. And now it is having the same problem
again. COULD THIS BE CAUSED BY A CLOGGED FUEL
FILTER!?!?!?!?

Message: My 2001 Dakota has been doing the same thing for over a year. Doesn't matter if I leave the key on for a bit before cranking, if its hot, cold outside, vehicle recently turned off ... it always takes 3 cranks to get it running. Then idles rough and smells flooded before smoothing out and running perfectly. I was told by my independent mechanic that it was a cold start sensor and that Dodge/Daimler Chrysler replacement parts were not correct and had the wrong wires (2 vs 3). That was a year ago. I am interested to hear whay anyone else may have to say on this too!

Message: try checking for codes first. Even though the CEL is not on there may be codes stored.
