Subject: AC leak detector
IP: Logged

Message:
My 2000 4.7 liter AC has a pretty good leak, a small can of 134 a only kept the system cold for about 3 days.

Has anyone had any luck with leak sealers in AC systems. I have read some posts suggesting using Angels system stop leak.

Any thoughts?

Stop leaks generally plug the flow in systems, also - not a good idea. Better to put UV dye in the system and look for the leak, and fix the component. Leak kits, with dye, goggles and UV light are only about $22 at the Zone.

The local auto parts store has a can of 134a with UV leak detector for about 19.00.

Does anybody have any experiences with these detectors, and also wondering if a standard black light bulb will work, or if you need something special.

Thanks!

Any UV light should work, but the kit gives you protective goggles for the UV rays. Cataracts are not fun.

Also, it's a penlight in the kit, so it's a focused beam, which really helps narrow down the source of the leak.
