Subject: AC leak detector IP: Logged
Message: My 2000 4.7 liter AC has a pretty good leak, a small can of 134 a only kept the system cold for about 3 days.
Has anyone had any luck with leak sealers in AC systems. I have read some posts suggesting using Angels system stop leak.
Any thoughts?

Message: Stop leaks generally plug the flow in systems, also - not a good idea. Better to put UV dye in the system and look for the leak, and fix the component. Leak kits, with dye, goggles and UV light are only about $22 at the Zone.

Message: The local auto parts store has a can of 134a with UV leak detector for about 19.00.
Does anybody have any experiences with these detectors, and also wondering if a standard black light bulb will work, or if you need something special.
Thanks!

Message: Any UV light should work, but the kit gives you protective goggles for the UV rays. Cataracts are not fun.
Also, it's a penlight in the kit, so it's a focused beam, which really helps narrow down the source of the leak.
