TGIF,

Does anyone know the recommended change interval for engine coolant, and what type is best to use. I did a drain/fill at 48,000 miles about 4 years ago. Also I have never replaced my upper and lower hoses, but they don't look too bad and not sure if/when they should be done.

My truck is a 2000, 4x4, 4.7 liter, 68K miles.

Thanks!

I try to do coolant changes every two years. If teh upper hose on the 4.7 is like the others, with the cap on the hose, expect to get it at the dealer. I paid $65 for mine a couple months ago. the plastic center piece broke.

Jerry,

I have a `95 with 146K miles. Original hoses with no intention of replacing them. Unless they are cracking, leaking or are 'squishy' when cold...don't spend the money if you don't have to. Also, the coolant produced these days is easily good for 4-5 years. You can pick up a hydrometer (sp?) for testing the fluid's cooling effectiveness. They are cheap and let you know exactly what condition your coolant is in. Any auto parts store will have them.

Thanks for the info guys.

Yes mine has the upper hose with the cap attached.

I guess due to the fact they are in pretty good shape, I'll wait to replace but continue coolant drain/fills. Also never actually had a system flush done.
