Message: Hello,
My 2000 4.7 liter V-8 AC does not seem as cold lately, and I do plan on getting it checked out.
When you turn the red/blue temperature control knob, I am guessing this controls a damper inside the cab. There are no automatic control valves under the hood that shut off antifreeze flow to the heater core, not that I can see anyway.
If I turn on the fan only, today it was blowing 100 degree air out? It is 85 degrees outside, but this does seem a little warm.
Need some opinions on this, is that normal or is there a problem.
Thanks, and have a great weekend!

Message: So, you have a nearly 12 year old truck and the A/C doesn't perform well. This is normal, you probably have a slight leak and are low on refrigerant.

Message: Bought a small can of 134a, after charging it the system is cooler now, so you are right a small leak is probably present.
I thought it strange though with the AC off, and blower only on 100 degree air was coming out the vents. Pretty warm air it seems.
But it least the AC is working better.

Message: Not strange at all, it's flowing past your engine compartment before it enters the cab.

Message: Well that 134 a charge I did only lasted about 5 days, now blowing 75 degree air again.
I must have a pretty good leak. I took some "snoop" which is basically liquid that produces bubbles when you squirt it on a leak.
Checked the low side fittings, connections, accumulator, condenser coil but could not find any leaks.
Does anyone know if the 4.7 liter AC system is prone to leaks in a particular spot?
Thanks and stay dry this weekend.

Message: I've seen post on here in the past complaining about having to change the evaporator. If you were leaking refridgerant anywhere but the evap you usually have an oily residue where the leak is.
Hopefully I get to do my HVAC repairs this weekend. New comp, drier, orifice tube. $295.00

Message: Wow, evaporator, that is probably not an easy and expensive job.
Also if that leaks, does it cause 134a to build up in the cab?
