Message: Got a 96 dakota sport 3.9 yesterday i was driving
and it and it started cutting out but when i let
off the gas it would stay running but when i got
back on the gas it would die down again would stay
idling though when this happens the oil gauge
drops all the way down and then goes back up does
this a few time sometimes it dont even go all the
way down but i turn the truck off and started it
again and it was fine for a few mins then same
thing again. I was able to get it home ok. Drove
it to work this morning and its only 6 mins away
and the truck ran as usual and oil pressure was
good. After work drove around a lil bit and it ran
great for about 20 mins then once it got up to nor
mal temp oil pressure started down and back up
again and truck would die or bog down if i tried
to drive it but would stay idling but the idle was
at 1600 rpms which is high for the truck cuz its
usually way lower than that. But whenever it does
this it idles higher. but after i let it idle for
a min or 2 it went again about 30 feet then did
it again so i turned it off and started it right
back up and it went fine for 15 mins so i got it
home. I am gettin p0138 and p0132 which is 02
circuit high voltage for both sensors on bank one
and i do have freeze frame data for when this
first happen so if anyone would like that let me
know but could someone please help. I just bought
truck a month ago so dont know to much about it
yet but i did fill up the tank this week at indian
res so idk if that could be a prob or what cel
been on since i had it but ran ok till now

Message: If oil pressure drops with engine RPM thst is normal. Pressure test the fuel pump according to the manual. If the fuel pump was going bad it would idle good but would lose power when you try to accelerate. Not sure if there is an external fuel filter or if it is in the tank on the pump. Oh, since you got codes for the O2 sensors, you may want to change them.

Message: I'd check the wires gogin to the O2 sensor I'm not sure if the 96's had 2 O2's or jsut one. My 94 only has one after the cat. Check the voltages on the O2 wires, make sure it is gettginthe proper signal from the computer before you spend the money on a new O2. If there is a break in the wire installing a new o2 won't make any difference. There is a possibility that the IAC is worn out as well, it could cause the erratic idle.

Message: Thanks for the replies i will try those things
this weekent i had my friend at work who was a
mechanic for 40 years look at it and he thinks the
map numbers may be off so he unplugged it and put
the system into default i guess. so far i have
been able to run ok oil pressure still moves erratically onces warmed up to temp of 190 but
havent had the jerking or stalling prob yet he is
leaving the map unplugged till tomorrow. but like
i said when the oil pressure started acted goofy
it would usually start cutting out if i stayed on
the gas but right now that aint happening
