OK, this is getting ridiculous. My catalytic converter failed again, for the 3rd time now since I have owned this truck. 1998, V6, no mods to the engine, 204,000 miles. The first one failed at around 100k, then again at about 160k, and now it failed again at 204k. When I say they failed, I mean they literally came apart internally, they sound like quarters in a can when removed.

Why?

You might look at the condition of your engine - whether it's running too rich, not tuned properly, etc. It's very unusual for that to happen so often. Running rich raises the temperature of the converter dramatically and embrittles the internals.

Guess thats what happens when you ram re-bar through it and weld a pipe inside

1990 sport RC SB, 1995 318drivetrain, 3.92 gears (came with truck) Powertrax "traction system", 95 dash/steering wheel, hearthrob exhaust, headers, cutout after y-pipe, necessary electric fan add-a-leafs, 30x9.5 mud tires, cranked T-bars, AR 39 15x8 rims, grill guard, roll bars
