Subject: Noise LOUD around the fan

I know this has been discussed and I know the issue with the fan clutch and my 2003 dak has worked ok but this more like a bearing has gone
it goe away occasionally but when you start it up you know something is worn out

any advice before I take to some mechanic

Check the waterpump. Mine was making an unusual growling, grabbed the waterpump pulley and it was loose. The ebaring was about gone but it was not leaking. I caught it just in time.

Yes I had a '94 Dakota with the same problem but with a larger fan of course. Every time I cranked up the motor it would take about a minute for the fan to catch up with the engine rpm or even higher.

So, yes it sound like you might even need a new bearing or it might be a temp gauge.
