Can a 518 trans out of a 93 Dakota (5.2L) be used in a 2000 R/T? Are the electronics compatible?

There the same. A518 is also known as (46 or 47 RE) transmission. The difference is that you transmission being from a 93 model truck would be a Hydraulic type or know as a RH model. The Dakota or Ram truck in the 2000/01 year had a RE or Electronic shifting transmission inside of going by pure hydro pressure.

Hope that helps.

A518 is known as the 46RH, not RE. Hydraulically vs Electrically controlled.

Here is a link Riv. http://www.hemmings.com/mus/stories/2006/07/01/hmn_feature15.html

Too answer the question of what’s the difference between a RE or RH. The last generation of Mopar HD 4 speed auto’s (basically a 727 with a OD) was Mopar’s A518 that had a electronic governor.

The RH models was more similar to the older torque flights but with a overdrive although over the years the parts or not interchangeable with comparable makes such as the A-500,A518,A618 or 48 RE transmission.
