Message: My 2001 Quad cab 4X4, 4.7L threw a rod. It had about 160K on it with no problem until now. I don't have the time or effort to mess with getting the engine replaced. Any ideas on what to do with it? Other than that, it's still in pretty good shape.

Message: I have an 01 Durango with a rod knock. You could drop a crank in this engine and put it in your truck. im asking 500 for the engine and a crank kit is 250.
Otherwise where are you located? and how much would you want for the truck?

Message: I am in the Dayton OH area. I've had it since 2002. I'd like to replace the engine myself, but I don't have the time right now and I'll be moving soon so I can't just keep it around. It is still in pretty good shape. It would be perfect for someone that has an engine that they want to throw in it or have a good short block. Even though it's still in good shape, the most I could get on a trade is about $1700 so I wouldn't want more than that.

Message: "right" - these engines sell routinely for $1500 with well over 100k on them. I have even seen salvage yards that sell them for $500 after they have been on fire.
$500 for a complete engine with one bad bearing is not an unreasonable price. Also putting a crank kit in it would be more then satisfactory to get it running for years to come as this engine is not that old and ran great aside from the spun bearing. No it won't be as good as a rebuilt or reman...but then again its not going to cost $2500 either. At a bare minimum its a great rebuildable core for less than a salvage yard would ask.
