I have a 2005 Dakota SLT V8 Quad Cab and Just Purchased a 2009 Dakota Slt V8 Quad Cab and was wondering if the towing package on my 2005 would swap onto my 2009.

Unfortunately the 'Tow Package' usually consists of more than just a few bolt-ons. Things like stronger shocks, the trailer wiring harness 'may' plug in to the newer rig, while other things ( larger braking system, bigger side mirrors, larger radiator/ transmission cooler, and heavier rear springs) sometimes associated with a tow package are not so easily 'swapped over'. Hope this helps.

I guess I should of been more specific all I want to swap is the receiver hitch I plan on putting the wiring harness on myself. All I have for towing options now is to put a ball on the bumper and I like the versatility of the receiver hitch. Thanks for the response though.

You can:
1. Crawl under your rig(s) and measure/ compare bolt hole locations
2. Or, since it is attached by 3 bolts on each side, you can simply remove it and see if the bolt holes line up on your newer rig. If so...bolt it up!
3. Or(!), if you know the brand, contact the mfg. and see if it fits mutiple years.
