Subject: 93 Dakota fuel pump

Just got a 93 dakota 3.9L 4x4 and when i got it the fuel pump was not working correctly.. the truck would run but not restart if shut off.The guy gave me another pump that i installed but now the truck would start but not stay running for more than 2min then pump would lock up. I got 2 other pumps ( one from caravan and one from intrepid ) from a scrap yard put in the caravan one and it lasted 2 days then stopped working.. took it apart and pump was locked up... got it unlocked after shocking it with a battery. So i put in the smaller but just as powerfull intrepid one for 2 days untill i found another pump NEW on internet for my truck.. put it in it lasted about a week then locked up the same as the other one's.. it would work if i shocked it with a battery also but then just locked up for good !! so now im using the smaller pump from the Intrepid again and its working for now... But what could be going on ??? I almost think there is a bunch of crap maybe floating around in the tank blocking up the pumps.. but I dont see how the screens are'nt blocking the crap ??? Anyone have any ideas

on the bottom of the pump itself past the filter is a brass colored screen. that can get rusty. because it isnt a complete brass screen. it does sound like it is getting clogged up some how. the filters dont get everything. if there is a bunch of stuff in the tank it will tank time to filter it all out. when you did your pump change did you use a new filter and clean out the tank completely. wiping it with a rag inside too?
