Ive been planning on a SAS for my 2000 dakota 4.7 EC. I am a noob at this so I had a few questions. I will be using leafs

1. I am not planning on going that high. will i need to extend/fabricate the driveshaft?

2. is there a way that I can utilize the rack and pinion, maybe with some sort of extension?

3. if I were to run 33s would a 3.55 ratio be good enough?

1. Regardless of how high you go, you will need a new driveshaft. Yours is currently attached to a stationary (mounted to the frame) differential. When you make the swap the new differential will move and be located further away than the original.

2. The rack and pinion goes away to be replaced by a steering box...unless you have some smarts on how to attach the rack to the differential and then provide some type of extension/ contraction mechanism between the steering shaft and rack. I personally haven't seen it done.

3. I am running 33's on my `95 with the 5.2L, A/T, and 355s. It doesn't spin the tires like it did with the original 245s, but it seems to get the job done. If you will need to change gears anyway, I would suggest something in the 373 or 392 range.

Hope this helps

I don't know which is cheaper...leafs or coils. I know some have used coil setups out of older Broncos. I think it boils down to the individual doing the work and their preference. Either will work.

Good luck!

just found a 79 bronco near me for $500! im pretty sure the radius arm brackets and the track bar brackets are bolt on, the only thing i have to weld are the coil buckets! I wonder if the broncos steering system would fit into the dakota?

You better do some serious measuring. I think the Bronco's closer in size to the Dak's are the '76 and earlier models. They were quite a bit smaller than that '79. The Broncos I'm talking about are the smaller ones and they, unlike the '79's do NOT use the same front sheet metal as the F150's from the same years.

I HAVE A 92 DODGE DAKOTA I DID A SAS CONVERTION ON. IT HAS A DANA 60 FRONT AND A STERLING 10.25 REAR. THE TRUCK ENDED UP WITH A 14 INCH LIFT AFTER I WAS DONE. WE BUILT IT MAINLY FOR MUD SO WE BUILT IT SOLID. BUT IT ENDED UP HAVING A TON OF FLEX AS WELL. SO MUCH FLEX IM MAXING OUT MY FLANGES AND BRAKEING OFF T-CASE OUTPUT SHAFT. ANY ONE KNOW THE BEST WAY AROUND THIS?
