Subject: 3.9 to 5.2 or 5.9 swap IP: Logged
Message: I have a '97 SLT club cab that has a 3.9 and 5 speed I am not sure of the rear gear but I'm running 30x9.50 tires that are just a tick taller than the 235s it came with and the best fuel mileage I have been able to get is 16.5 mpg and it doesn't seem to matter how I drive it. I don't take off hard and usually cruise at 70-75 about 1900-2000 rpm. I am really getting serious about doing a 5.2 or 5.9 swap because it is gutless on hills when pulling my car trailer loaded 4000lbs. or less. I'm thinking the 5.2 or 5.9 won't be any worse on fuel milage. I bought the truck new and don't plan on parting with it now. Looking for a 5.2 5.9 buildable core or a ready to install unit.oldskooloutlaw@gmail.com

the computer and 2 extra injector wires. The V6
trans will not hold up long behind the 5.2......

Message: Sorry for the redundant question, guess I didn't read enough of the tech questions. BTW what would the best transmission to use ? I'm wouldn't mind an automatic that would hold up to towing. Thanks Ken

That is a high final ratio. Sounds like you had high
gears and the taller tires made it worst.
