Subject: 2007 Gear Ratio Change IP: Logged
Message: I have A 2007 Dakota with factory tow package. The
truck came with 3.55 rear end and I am looking at
upgrading to 3.92 for a little better towing
experience. Do I need to have anything else done if
I change the ratio. Just for info I will be pulling
a 4500 lb empty weight camper..

Message: If it's a 4x4, you gotta change the front ratio as well, otherwise you risk breaking some very expensive parts when using 4 wheel drive.

Message: If it has a manual trans, I'd go with 3.92:1.
If it has an auto trans, I'd go with 4.10:1.
That is a lot of weight even empty. And if it's an auto and you don't have an aux. trans cooler, install one.
By the way, what does that trailer towing package list for max. towing capabilities?
