Message: I have a 1996 Dodge Dakota, 3.9 V6 and it won't
start. I have checked battery, fuses, and relays.
All appear ok. I am getting fuel, tested on fuel
rail, just no spark. Tried starter fluid directly
into carb fully open, still no start. I have
checked all the plug wires, and plugs. Ok. Checked
Distributor, it spins when you take the cover off.
I was told to change my ignition coil. I did, it
still won't start. However, there is some exposed
wiring in the main wiring harness under driver
fender. I checked to see if any were loose or
broken, doesnt appear to be. I taped them back
up...and back together in one harness again. I
tested for power in what I believe to be the
crankshaft sensor plug wiring. There is no power.
Tested power to the distributor from the ignition
coil, no power, unless I ran a hotwire straight to
the battery. Then with the key on, I got power.
Engine still wouldn't start. Tested from the
SPCC, directly to the battery no power. Thinking
its crankshaft sensor, hall effect sensor or speed
sensor. Most likey is crankshaft sensor. But my
problem is, that I can't find it. I am looking on
the passenger side at the firewall, on the
bellhousing...and theres no harnesses there. Only
harness, which I believe is the hall effect
sensor, is coming from the distributer to a plug,
running further back the transmission...Any Ideas,
on if I am correct and where I can find this
sensor?
For anybody looking for the fuse panel can find a
video of it here:
