Subject: pinging IP: Logged
Message: I have a '98 Dakota with the 318 V8, automatic, 2 wheel drive. I get a pinging sound when accelerating, once to speed it stops. I have called it spark knock but was told by a dealer it was not. They described spark knock as 3 marbles in a tin can sound, mine is more like 2 BB's in a tin can. I only hear it when accelerating as in passing or entering an Interstate. Any ideas what it might be? I have tried different grades of fuel with no change. I really like my truck and don't want to damage it.
