Message: The bar and lock flex you can still open up the
tailgate. They give you "special" instructions
on how to "fix" or rotate the lock to compensate
for the "play" in the bar. Maybe I got a Monday
morning made lock by somebody hung over
but mine will not lock.

Message: Off topic[cheap tailgate lock]
Lose the ugly lock and stick with the oem handle.
Instead go to homedepot and buy 5 feets of cable 1/2" thick(whatever size) and splice the ends together or whatever way makes you happy and have a cheap fullproof setup to keep things in there place. The tailgate has air holes at the bottom so run the cable through it. Simple enough.
The thief wouldn't waste his time sliding under the truck to cut the 1/2" cable. then again:)

Message: I just put a hose clamp on swivel so you can't pull it out. If someone has enough time to jerk with your car then you got other problems, like someone driving off with the whole thing.
Bully lock was just to much trouble for me to even begin installing it.

Message: Man...this lock is a piece of junk. I have the same problem that Brad mentioned above (sticking lock). Also, once I installed it and locked it I then pulled up on the handle w/out just a little force. The metal part of the lock flexes enough to allow it to be opened. Anyone that hasn't had problems w/the lock yet....just do that once or twice with a bit of force...like a thief might do. That thing will give out.

Message: Oh it's true...It's damn true!!!
The Bully lock is a P.O.S. It's easy to install but it flexes so much that the tailgate will still open. I suggest getting the POP n' LOCK from Pace Edwards. They even got one you can wire to your power locks.

Message: I have had the same problem with my Bull Tailgate lock. After seeing the post from Brad S about talking to the manufacturer, I decided to try to contact them myself.
I sent a email to bullyacc@airmail.net
In the email I mentioned that I really do want a lock for my truck, but that their lock does not work well. The Lock cylinder twists when opening the gate, and the lock does not stop opening the tailgate. I asked them to send a new lock cylinder or whatever is required to repair the lock.
Well, I never heard back from them via e-mail, but much to my surprise, yesterday I received a new locking mechanism from the company for No Charge (replaced under warranty).
The design of the locking mechanism has been changed, and no longer relies on the lock cylinder to keep the truck locked.
I will take some pictures of the old and new lock mechanism to post here, and I will install the lock tonight.
I will post another entry on how well the new lock works after it has been installed and tested.

I think that they will be bombarded.
How easy does the bezel come off?
The literature says once it is on it stays on.
Thanks for all info given on this subject

Message: I installed the new lock into my truck.
The new lock design actually works !!!!
I pulled on the handle fairly hard, and the tailgate did not open. I do have one difference installed in my truck than what they sent me. I have replace the black screw that mounts the lock to the tailgate with a bolt. I can tighten the bolt much tighter that the screw. This keeps the lock assembly from twisting.
To remove the plastic bezel around the handle, I used a thin plastic credit-card sized card, and loosened the two bottom corner clips. Then lift up on the handle, and tip, and slide the top clips out of the hole.
Do this very carefully, the clips are made of plastic. If you break one, you could probably superglue the clip back on.
Here is a picture of the old lock style. This design put all of the locking pressure on the lock cylinder itself.

Here is the new design. This has a mechanism built into the bracket. The lock cylinder only pivots a section of the bracket to lock the tailgate. This is a much sturdier design, and appears to work much better.

Message: O.K. I guess I already have the new style,
I gave it a good jerk and it came open!!
I then spun the mechanism a little as recommended.
it still came open.
Took more pressure though.
I will leave it as is 'cause it is still a deterant.
I will still be cautious about leaving valuables back there.
good luck with yours everyone.

Message: on the bully, the bezel comes off as easy as on the stock unit. I emailed them some time ago to complain, no response. I'm gonna pull mine off and get the popnlock.
