Subject: 2WD Front Hub Bearing IP: Logged
Message: I just had my left front hub bearing assembly
replaced, and when I looked through my records, I
realized that I just had it replaced 2 years ago
(maybe 20K miles).
#1 Is this a symptom of some other problem, or
just coincidence (realize there is always the
chance that the shop ripped me off).
#2 How do you know when your front hub bearing
assembly needs replacing? Truck has 92K, I'm
thinking I should just replace the right front
also.
any thoughts?

Message: Roger, my '00 has about 130k on it and I need to change the driver side hub. It's starting to growl when I am above 40mph and turning to the right. But, the reason it's doing this now is because it took a direct shot when I had a little fender bender about 2 years ago. When the other vehicle hit me it contacted the left front wheel when it was turned fully left. No body damage but the bearing took all that force. The passenger side hub is still fine even with about 130k on it.
Maybe your original was defective and the shop installed a cheap alternative or one from a pull-a-part yard.
