Subject: Dang rust welded muffler IP: Logged
Message: I got the brackets off, but the muffler itself is so rust-welded to the pipes that it won't budge. I tried twisting it, penetrating solvent, a propane torch, a hammer, and it has not budged. I feel like I'm at least 2/3rds of the way done with the job, so dang if I'm going to take it to a shop at this point. Any tips?

Message: Use an air chisel. You are throwing the old muffler away, so cut the ends of the muffler with an inexpensive air chisel. They can be found at Lowe's in with the other air tools.

Message: When you install your new muffler, put some anti-seize compound on the pipes where they go into the muffler. You'll never have that problem again.

Message: I use a Dremel tool with a heavy-duty cutoff wheel. Runs at 30,000 RPM, slices through like butter.
