Message: I have a 2000 Dakota V8 4.7L. My AC isn't working. A dealer checked the system, including the freon, & couldn't find anything wrong with it. They said their next step is to tear it completely down looking for something & I don't want to spend that kind of money on "No Gurantee". Here's what happens... It may blow cold for a couple seconds then smelly "steam" comes out of the vents & it blows hot.
Has anyone had this problem and if so, how do I fix it?
THANKS!

Message: Smelly as in a mold odor, or as in a sickly-sweet (antifreeze) odor? If the latter, could be a heater core leak. Check your radiator and overflow jug levels frequently. And don't let those morons pull the system apart. It's not justified at this point.

Message: It was more of a mold stink. My brother took a look at it & it seems the pressure switch is having an issue (it could be the switch itself or it could be low on freon). He pulled the wire to the switch & closed the circut so the air would run but it wasn't cold. I ordered a new switch since it was only $16 and will have the freon checked. The dealer said the freon level was fine & there were no leaks but I could have just gotten screwed by idiots. Hopefully this will do the trick.
Thanks!
