Message: I loved my 2000 Dakota Club Cab with the 4.7 V8, but the new Dakotas have not kept pace with the competition. Unfortunately Dodge has abandon the Dakota and put all bets on the Ram. Out of three dealers in my area there was only one Dakota on the lot between all three of them. Dealers can't sell dakotas if they don't have them on the lot. The Toyota dealers on the other hand stock lots of Tacomas. The Tacoma is far more refined than the new dakotas and it cheaper to boot. I've owned three Dakotas, but this was it for me.

Message: Jim: I agree with you. I've owned 2 Dakota's, latest being an 02. I'm waiting to see what comes out of this Lifestyle truck that Ram is planning. If it doesnt suite my needs I'll be looking elsewhere for a mid-size.

Message: And like so many other people you are saying what other's has been actually doing for the past 4 to 6 years when the Gen4's came to the lots. First, there’s was never any ground breaking ingenuity; such as performance, interior or even suspension package for that matter.
When a auto company such as Chrysler has to rebate there products to death; you know there's nothing special about it. So why waste your money??
I myself thank the Tacoma is a good choice, but the first gen Tundra is even better.

Message: Well i'll throw my hat in the ring and agree that dakotas have sucked for a long time now but if i had to pull the trigger on a new truck it would have to be a Ford powerstroke diesel...no smog checks and boo-coo power, 4 full doors and an 8ft bed. Throw a bullydog program on it and you got even more power or less if you want better mileage and if the sh!t hits the fan make your own bio-diesel.

Message: Well i think that was a pretty cool video, you could load either of these trucks to the limit and probably still blow a yota off the road, the next post would be "yeah but i dont need to haul any weight or pull a trailer" answer=then buy a car.

I agree, there's nothing exciting about a new product without any ground breaking feachers.
Also check out what the article (in the latest edition) said about the gen 4's. Brake failures and catalytic failures???
@bucket.
Yeah, the DT444 was not a bad engine. But could that be said about the other international's that came after it. But the newly developed engine that Ford built is indeed innovative neither the less; nor it’s quieter than a gas engine at idol. Never would have thought that could be possible.
