Subject: fuel issue IP: Logged
Message: im working on a 98 v6 that had a bad fuel line connection at the pump. i read that you could replace the plastic line with a some 3/8 and 5/16 line with a splice to make up for the different sizes of the hard line and the outlet from the fuel pump. we did this and now dont seem to have enought fuel to the motor. it will start and idle but when you try and drive it just sputters along. Any ideas???? we do still have a small leak at the pump but i have a hard time believing thats the cause. mike

Message: Why don't you believe that can cause problems? Don't drive any vehicle with a fuel leak. Fix it and see what happens.
Or drive it if your will has been drawn up.

Message: With the leak you are losing fuel pressure.
(why it will idle but won't do much more)
I wouldn't keep running the truck as also with the
leak air is getting in and will cause a lean
condition. (burn up the pistons &/or valves)

Message: yea, or light you stuff on fire, fix it first then start diagnosis, fix your known problems first,a fuel leak IS A PROBLEM
spark/fuel/air flow runs an engine
if that doesnt fix it check catlytic converter or check engine light codes

Message: Well we fixed it. It was not the leak that was the problem (we did fix that too). When my friend tried to fix it he turned the fuel outlet on top of the pump assembly. This twisted and kinked the fuel line inside the pump assembly. That's why it would get enough fuel to idle but not to run under load. Thanks for your help guys. Mike
