Subject: A/C Problem IP: Logged
Message: 89 Dakota 3.9. As far as I know, all the a/c components are original. It has always blown cold and just recently I'm getting this strange sound from the evaporator area. It sounds like a boat horn off in the distance. It runs fine for the first couple of hours of stop and go driving with a mix of highway. Then the drone starts. It only happens at a full stop/idle, and once you start moving, it stops. I also noticed the line that runs from the compressor to the expansion valve (high side?), that is usually cold to the touch and sweating, is now hot and dry. I get plenty of drip from the condensation tube. Once it sits over night, the cycle starts again. My guess is the compressor is not cycling on and off and freezing up the evap?? What do you think?
