Subject: 91 tranny problems IP: Logged
Message: i have a 91 dakota 4 wheel drive, 5 speed. when its in nutral and the clutch is pushed in, its quiet, but as soon as i let it out it starts to make a howling, whining noise. any ideas?

Message: Your input shaft bearing is bad.
If it makes more noise with clutch out, it's the input shaft bearing. If it makes more noise with the clutch in (or won't disengage, or grinds when you shift), it's the throwout bearing.
