Message: What the most cost efficient way to get that type of performance without doing any type work such as replacing cams, or upgrading the intake manifold and so forth?
This would be far a 2004 Dodge Dakota with a 4.7L mated to a 5-45 Auto.

It shouldn't be too hard to find those numbers if you add a Super chip, and the correct exhaust system with tubular headers.

Message: Joe C.,
no offense, Look up the dynoed before and after #'s for the changes you suggest and for your engine.
What we are trying to say is, A SC tuner is about 13 max dynoed. That's b/c you have an Auto tranny = more change for the SC's. The 4.7 has some really good articles on headers, that basically say it's not even worth the change -FOR THAT MOTOR, yes usually a significant gain is seeen. And the Exhaust, unless you're going with a complete dual exhaust, not just a simple cat back that basically changes the sound, Mr. Bucket is more in the ballpark of 20hp MAX.
Joe, no offese intended here.
The HO cam(s) change, once very cheap (112 new when I did mine), may get you 10-15 HP. You'll need some pretty hot cams to get those #'s, etc.

Message: According to dave of Dodgeboy.com (I think it's defuncted) did an performace upgrade on his Dodge Durango by adding HO cams. I never asked him what numbers he was expecting nor did I ask if it was dynoed.

For all that money spent, if you only have just a modest gain, then why wastes all that money.
Well, I just by me a create motor or something.

Message: My 5.2 has plenty of power even fully loaded with prospecting gear, and pulling a trailer. I would think the 4.7 should have enough power to spin some wheels on a normal truck or should i say for the "average Joe" so why the quest for more power Joe?

Message: Joe C.,
Like I said, my HO cams(s) install only cost me ($112, shipped to my door) but that was '02.
I installed them with a friend, who also did an install. Took around 4-6 hrs I think I remember.
My first dyno already had the cams, but others had done before and after dynos already.
Bottom line is like you said, if you want some real HP/TQ difference, you need to spend some big bucks.

Message: What The Todd is telling Joe C. is, if you dont have the bucks then you better be prepared to do atleast the labor, otherwise you wont get the "large performance gains" from just a chip and exhaust.

Message: Well if you had a diesel you might could get what you're looking for by just adding in a power chip and also a bank exhaust system.
But you might want to order in a camp cam and probably some more goodies as well including a high-pro ignition system.
