Subject: 04 - 08 manifold TB adapter

Message:
Have a 2004 4.7L, I heard this from AirRam.com
That if you want to swap in a manifold from a 2008 engine, you will need an adapter plate kit to install the 3-bolt pattern TB to the 4-bolt manifold. And they are asking 300+ for it, from what i can see, all it i just a plate with bolt holes in it.
Has anyone gone this route and found that they could have made they're own adapter plate? Or is there more to it? My brother is a machineist and figures he can probably make one up during his lunch break.

It's true, Alex. That's because the 2008 engine uses Electronic Throttle Control (ECT). The ECT manifolds use different bolt paterns so no one will put an earlier model (cable) throttle body on it by accident.
If you want to use the 2008 intake manifold with your 2004 engine, you will need an adapter.

Is the '08 intake that much better than the '04? Just curious.

Ok.....That's true that the 08's have a 4 bolt pattern. I was just hoping that i could save the extra 300 they want for that adapter.
And as far as it being better....from my understnading, along with HO cams (on my wishlist) it is supposed to produce the torque/power closer to the newer 08+ models.
I guess just think of the 08+ manifold as an HO intake for the 04 to 07 engines.
