Yesterday I noticed some water dripping from the interior A-pillar trim upper bolt hole (right above the handle). It was raining outside and the Dakota is a 2006.

Has anyone w/ a newer Dakota experienced this?

I guess it's time to start tearing into it to see what's leaking. Any ideas? Hopefully it's just a leaf behind the weatherstripping or something.

I have an 06 which had the same issues. After several attempts the dealer pinpointed the leak came from the seal around my moon/sun roof. It cost me about just under 200.00 to get the sealing fixed by the dealer. Over the past week weve had terrrential rain for about 3 days straight, no more leaks. I was thinking about pulling the roof shell down myself, then the grab handles, and just by the looks, it seemed like such a pain to do myself. If you dont have a sun/moonroof, clean the weather stripping around the upper part where the roof meets the door. Also where the door meets the side of the windshield...remove plastic stripping with a phillips head and clean there too. it seems a lot of dirt build up around there. Good luck

I have a 2005 Dakota quad cab V8 SLT and mine leaks as well. The water comes out of the cap over the bolt that holds the grab handle. My father has a Mitsubishi pickup (imitation of the Dakota) and his leaks in the same spot. It seems to me to be a little more than debris getting in the way. It seems more like a defect in the design if it is happening on a variety of vehicles.

I have a 2006 Dodge Dakota quad cab V8 SLT and have the same problem. Water comes out of the temp/compass panel or the bolt caps on the hand holds. The sunroof seal looks ok. I have tried to cause the issue with a garden hose but can not see where it is leaking. has anyone had any success with getting Dodge to fix this issue? Problem I have here in North Jersey is that many of the Dodge dealers were closed by Chrysler during their restructuring.

I took the truck to the Dodge dealer and the suggestion was to remove the windshield and reseal it ($90) or replace the windshield ($300) with the warning that the removal and resealing could crack the windshield, in which case replacement was only option. I didn't do either. I took it to local mechanic who put sealant around some gaps and the problem stopped for a few months. It's back again.

I have the same problem with my 01 Dakota Club
Cab. When it rains I get water in both driver's
and passenger's floorboard. I pulled the plastic
cowl panel and discovered that the foam gasket
between the panel and bottom of the windshield
has deteriorated over time and hope that fixes
the leak. However, I will also check the
handles on the A pillars for leaks at the
attachment screws. Thanks all for that tip.

My 2008 leaks from the brake light
assembly. Every couple years I take it
off change the bulbs and silicone all
around it. I couldn't find a
replacement gasket anywhere.
