Subject: 1997 dodge dakota brake problem IP: Logged
Message: I have a 97' 4x4 5.2l, and my brakes are giving me some problems. I am getting a very inconsistant pedal. I am losing no fluid. The truck has new lines. I replaced the master cylinder hoping to fix it and no luck. I pulled the front callipers off and they are fine, not locked up or leaking. One time I can hit the brake and it goes to the floor setting off the ABS and brake lights off on the dash, and the next time I hit them, they are fine. Anyone have this problem befor and solve it?? Any ideas??

Message: Have you ever bled them?
Anti lock brakes need to be bled regular as moisture
gets into the fluid and can cause problems.
Also
High Miles on the truck?
If so check your caliper hoses they could be
swelling up when you apply the brake & you lose the
hydraulic pressure.

Message: I rebleed the lines, and it temporary helped, but it returned eventually. I then took and exchanged the new master cylinder for another, and that fixed it, the "new" master cylinder was bad.
