Hey all, after doing a little research I decided to swap my 4.7 out for a 5.7 Hemi. I have received the hemi out of a 2004 Durango and some things are not as easy as I thought. The engine mounts are different and I didn't receive all the wiring needed. I did expect the mounts would be different so this is not a surprise. What I thought is I would post my progress and problems I ran into in case anyone else doing this needs help or has any advice. I have gotten the old engine out and hopefully by the end of the weekend I will have mounts fabricated and the hemi setting in truck. I will try to keep posting on problems and solutions I have found.

Ok, but what about the rear axel? I forgot if it was a 8.5 or a 9 inch. But it might be strong enough for the larger Hemi. Also I think you biggest problem will indeed be electrical. I would think that you would have to reprogram your PCM if not have a need for a new one that fits that type of engine.

I have the Hemi ecu but did not receive the wiring for the transmission. I hope the rearend will be OK but haven't even looked to see what I got. I have gotten a little busy and have not gotten much done yet but hopefully will soon.

The rear end will be fine. The 4.7 is backed up by the (5)45rfe (yes the 45rfe and 545rfe are the same)transmission and 10.25 rear end found in the ram's. basically it was given the same components found behind the hemi already.
From what I have found, to put a hemi in a 4.7 powered dakota you need motor mounts, hemi ecm, and a whole host of wiring changes that can only be done by you.
important notes: hemi computers control the transmission and engine where as the 00,01,02 dakotas have a separate trans controller. 03 dakotas use 1 ecm for both but I still believe they cannot just be swapped.

Just but install something much better than that half a$$ hemi head engine. Put in a LT1.
