Subject: Serpentine Belt IP: Logged
Message: I have a 94, V6, auto 218k. Recently (in Oct 09) I had a belt to shred the first three lines, from the radiator, and rap around the fan. I was able to get the belt out and noticed the tensioner was turning slightly inwards towards the block when the vaccum kicked-in after I replaced the belt. I replaced the tensioner pully. The water pump was crackling like the bearing was going out and weeping from the bottom so I replaced the pump. The noise it was making went away. Now my idler pully behide the fan is squeeling. A little WD40 fixes the problem for one day but returns. And now I just noticed my belt starting to crack and shred. Is a pully out if line? Bad Belt? Cheap belt? My last belt (before the shred) lasted 60k+ with no problems.

Message: Replace the complete tensioner. If its original, the pivit point and spring are very worn. It will not track straight and hold the belt at the right tension. Check all pulleys for worn sharp edges and replace all original idlers. At 200 plus-you have got your moneys worth. Time to replace some things.

Message: I replaced my tensioner a few years ago. I think it was around $30 and easy to do. Mine was squeaking at the time.
