Subject: Installing cruise control
IP: Logged

Message:
I had a 95 Dakota for several years and it had the cruise control feature, which I enjoyed since I have to do a lot of long-distance driving. But recently I bought a 98 model Dakota which doesn't have cruise. Can I just remove the cruise control components from the 95 model and install them on the 98, or is that not possible? I'm not using the old truck for anything but parts anymore so I can get anything I need from it. Any advice would be helpful.

I'm pretty sure that the cables for the throttle will interchange without a problem. But I'm going off of the old TBI setup, which had a place the the cruise control cable to hook up next to the throttle cable whether it came with cruise or not. Might have to change your throttle body.

If that goes over easy, then its just a matter of vacuum hoses. Well, for the mechanical part of it. The controls themselves I have no idea about, sorry.

I think you'll run into trouble with the electronics. The '95 donnor would be OBD and the '98 truck is OBDII emissions. Not to sure how much that cruise control and PCM need each other but. the mechanical parts may interchange.
