Message: Folks, it has been a long time since I have posted here but I'm looking for some help.
My 2000 Quad Dak 4X4 with well over 200K had an issue this morning when I got to work. I went to put it in park and noticed the shift lever had an unusual amount of play in it. The shifter on the column now hits the dash (fan and temp knobs) when in park and reverse. I spent two hours on the net trying to find an exploded view of the column where the shifter attaches with no luck. I also check my Chilton's manual and there is nothing there either.
The shifter moves into all the right spots by the indicator in the panel as well as with feel. It shifts fine also. There is a great deal of fore and aft movement to the shift lever. Any ideas??? TIA
Bill

Message: Looked at the parts manual.
No exploded view exists of what you want, only a line drawing for parts location from the side opposite the gear selector. Not useful at all for what you want.
I think Dodge expects the owner to replace the entire steering column.
Pdf being sent to your email address.

Message: Steve, I sent you photos of what went wrong with the shift lever. I got it fixed with the use of a drill motor, stainless steel pop rivet collar and roll pin. Life is good!

Message: Well done, Bill! Excellent pics.
You'd think something as important as the selector detent would be attached with a bit more than an aluminum rivet, huh?
Good that you were able to fix it yourself, and save some major $$$.
Now you can have a happy new year.
