Subject: E-brake sticking IP: Logged
Message: I recently got the rotors and pads replaced on the
rear end of my 2000 dakota 4x4. Since then when I
have the e-brake on and then take it, and reverse
the truck, the brake sticks and makes a bad brake
squeak sound when I try and drive forward. To fix
it i have to reverse again and it somehow unsticks
the brake. Usually when it sticks the e-brake light
will stay on until it unsticks, after i have pulled
the e-brake release switch. Anyone heard of this
before?

Message: You have discovered a common cold-weather characteristic of drum parking brakes, and also the way to get them unstuck.
Because of the way they are designed, moving the vehicle in reverse will usually unstick the shoes from the drum.
