Subject: Clunk from front end IP: Logged
Message: What would cause a 1996 Dakota 2WD to clunk from the passenger side front end when I drive over a bump?
Thanks in advance.

Message: Check the ball joints. Does it "clunk" when you are braking? Or braking and turning to the left?

Should also check Shock, Broken or worn & body mounts.

Message: I do not hear a clunk when I brake or turn to the left. I replaced the upper joints a few years ago. Do I possibly need to replace them again or is it more likely that I need to now replace the lower?
I will also check the shocks and mounts as suggested.

Message: The sound when I ride over a bump is like "c-clunk" in two distinct sounds. Is that consistent with a lower ball joint that pops out and then back into place?

Message: My 98 was doing exactly that then it progressed not just to speed bumps but to braking as well and it turned out to be the radius arm bushing.
