Subject: Another Ball Joint Q... IP: Logged
Message: Although it's probably redundant by now, there's just a couple
things I'm not completely sure about at the moment. Just to be
safe anyways.
1. Anyone know what you torque the new ball joint nuts to? Not
the main bolt with the castle nut, I mean the 3 small ones that
you connect it to the control arm with (upper). Because I can't
find that info. anywhere...
2. To get the new (upper) ball joint in, do you simply bolt it up
to the control arm, then slip the ball joint into the knuckle and
tighten the main castle nut to the 60ft lbs? Is that even
physically possible? Or will I have to get a press to press the
ball joint back into the knuckle on the top?
Thanks for the help!

Message: Upper ball joint castle nut gets 60 ft. lbs.
Upper ball joint retaining nuts get 50 ft. lbs.
That info is taken directly from Safety Recall D47 - Upper Ball Joints.
"...slip the ball joint into the knuckle and tighten the main castle nut to the 60ft lbs" is correct
