Message: Posted a message concerning my 2001 Durango recently. Would not start hot; had to sit about an hour. Noticed Park and Neutral icons not lit on dash. Had replaced the electronic control module, but did not fix problem. Mechanic told me it was neutral safety switch inside trans; big bucks to fix. A kind soul on this forum told me to get TCM from 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, same 4.7L V8. Put module in. Seems that starting problem gone, but trans seems to slip when starting out in drive, and will not shift into overdrive. So, at 60 MPH, RPM around 3000. Did not have this problem when first got the car in July, but did after I replaced the ECM. Replaced TCM did not solve problem. Again, trans seems to slip into gear when shifter in drive. Does not seem to do so when in drive 2 or drive 1. Check engine lite is on; codes as neutral safety switch. Help!

Message: I'm not a expert in transmission, but that tells me that you got a lot of gunck in you're transmission fluid. Most likely, it could been metal trash that the filter could not collect. So I would start with a tranny flush: if that don't help any; then it could time for a rebuild.
