Subject: Upper Ball joint: Compress spring?
IP: Logged

Message:
When replacing the upper ball joint on a '97 2wd, is it necessary to
compress the coil spring? I mean it would seem to make sense
yeah, because wouldn't the spring push up the control arm when
you separate the ball joint from the knuckle? How would you
prevent that from happening if you don't compress the spring?
Because the Chilton manual only says you need to compress the
spring when doing the lower ball joint...

Any answers would be appreciated, Thanks!

Yes, use a spring compressor when disconnecting the upper balljoint.
