Message: I have a 99 Dakota v8 and the last few weeks I intermittently hear the check gauges warning and notice that the temperature gauge has almost maxed out. In a few seconds it will eventually go back down to normal. The weather has been in the 60's and I've been driving in the city and for no more than 20 minutes at a time.
I'm thinking it might be the thermostat sticking because I turned the heater on and got cold air the last time it happened.
Any thoughts? thanks.

Message: I had the same problem about 2 weeks ago and thought the same thing about the thermostat at first. My problem ended up being that the radiator cap was not tightened enough. I tightened it and then the temp stayed perfect. I went ahead and got a new cap just in case and haven't had a problem since.
Hope this helps,
Jason

Message: Thanks. That was the type of info I was looking for. I'll try that before spending any money.
